Horror author Jill has just moved to suburban New Jersey, hoping to fit in with the new PTA moms and maybe not weird everyone out with her Final Girl coffee mug. You know. Make some real friends.
But then a plastic face-masked serial killer begins slashing their way through town, one overly made-up mom at a time. The police are incredulous. The moms are indignant. And Jill is slowly wrapped into a killer’s murderous spree, until she might just be the last woman standing.
A delightfully murderous novel that is equal parts scathing and salacious, Dollface will win you over with its gossip and gore, one body at a time.
*MY THOUGHTS*
This was also so much fun! I LOVE a good slasher and this wasn’t at all what I was expecting. It really made me want to go watch Halloween and Scream again just to get into the slasher setting again.
Ok so the main thing I liked about this was the plot. Someone is picking off the PTA…. Jill has just moved in and her neighbor convinced her to join the PTA to make friends. But then a serial killer comes to town and starts with the other PTA members. As a slasher connoisseur I HAD to read this. And it brought me all the horror feels! And the little inserts from the killer had me going crazy. That eyeball thing and the head things…. Yeah I was was not expecting that with this super pink, super made up cover. It was wild.
The ending was what kept me from giving this a higher rating. Because what do you mean it was that person? I don’t even want to say anymore because of spoilers, but dang. Could have given us SOME credit when trying to figure it out. But there was someone else there in addition to what we know, and I thought that was weird. Because they were out of nowhere. It just didn’t flow. I found myself finding random people it could have been because I didn’t want it to be the person they had at the ending lol
There is spice in here, but I felt it was out of place. They were married, but the rule of thumb in horror is if you do it, you’re dead. But not in this one. I was annoyed by that a little bit lol If you’re going to writing the genre, respect the genre identities lol Also, I just don’t see how at a time like this you’re ok with doing it. Ain’t no way I would have been paying attention. It just screams “unserious” lol
This was crazy lol I want to say more but I don’t want to add any spoilers. I hope y’all pick this up because I need to discuss that ending. It definitely had me so confused. But the rest of the book was ok tho. It kept me on my toes and I hope you give it a try soon too!
Overall, I give this
