These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!
Today’s Theme: Gone Viral!
I never would have thought to put these two together, but I read these two back to back and realized something… Both of the main characters have to suffer through a video of them that has gone viral! I wouldn’t say either one of them was a good reason to go viral, but one of them is for sure better than the other lol In this one, Love is trying to help after her friend falls during graduation and shows her underwear to the entire town. Love jumps into action and starts dancing around and with her teachers. Someone catches it on video and uploads it. Suddenly, she’s everywhere and all these people have started calling in hopes to work with her. It was hella quick. The aftermath was also a whirlwind, but you’ll have to read it because I don’t want to tell you the entire plot. (This is YA and is out now!)
I’m only a little ways into this one, but I’ve already seen that Willow was in a viral video as well. But hers was because of her asshole ex. I won’t say who or why or what else happened, but Lordt. It was bad. Now she’s moved to her her brother’s to dog sit and came up with the idea to try doing a re-do list. She wants a re-do on everything that she did with her ex that she deserves to have a better memory of. I won’t go into what’s on the list because of spoilers, but there’s some really cute stuff on there and the chapter headings are like little slips of paper with a “handwritten” part of the list. So far its really cute. (This is Adult and out 01/27!)

Such a Bad Influence had a viral story when a former internet kid goes missing. In This Could Be Us, Soledad was a single mom who started making videos of her cooking who suddenly went viral. In Just for the Summer, a man and woman go viral for having their exes always meet their forever partner after they broke up. In The Boyfriend Project they found out they were dating the same man from a viral tweet. In Such a Fun Age, the Black babysitter goes viral for allegedly kidnapping the yt child she sits for. Better Living Through Birding is a Non-fiction book about birding. It’s Christian’s memoir about birding, his life as a Black queer man, and the incident in Central Park that went viral. Girl Gone Viral is a 2020 book about a model and a bodyguard.
