For Readers Interested In: Most Anticipated, Thrillers, Horror, YA, MysteryFrom the bestselling author of I Am Still Alive comes a new nail-biter that’s part survival story, part murder mystery, and all thriller—perfect for fans of Karen McManus and Holly Jackson!
Two years ago Mercy Gray was hailed as a hero for saving lives during a mall shooting. She still carries souvenirs from that incident: the fragment of a bullet lodged in her back, a mountain of medical debt, and guilt for ignoring her sister’s warnings that the sweet boy next door was anything but.
When billionaire-turned-TV-host Damien Dare recruits Mercy to compete on his new survivalist reality show, she can’t turn down a chance at the whopping cash prize that could send her sister to college—but when she and the other contestants arrive at the off-grid location, something isn’t right. The set is empty. The gates close without warning, trapping them inside. Then one of them turns up dead. What appeared at first to be a tragic accident quickly transforms as more contestants start dying. With time and resources running low, surviving this show takes on a new meaning.
*MY THOUGHTS*
This book single handedly confirmed that I would not survive in any situation remotely like this lol Granted I wouldn’t let myself get put in any situation like this, but still. This book was so good, but only because I was reading it from the comfort of my own home lol
Ok so the mystery part of this was crazy. So naturally, I liked it a lot. It really was scary because it started sounding like some things people irl are saying now a days. It’s getting scary out here. But anyways, besides the motive, the way they were going after each of them was crazy too. All the little things that was happening to them. And the way they were doing them? Yeah it creeped me out. Like at one point there’s a water thing. Without thinking I went and got some water just to make sure I had some. I was so into this I didn’t even realize I had gotten it. The mystery just sucks you in.
I know I marked this as horror, but it wasn’t like scary horror if that makes sense. Don’t get me wrong, it will mess you up, but it’s the thriller part that’s scary. The horror part is more like people are dying and we don’t know how or why until its too late. So basically I spent the majority of this book on pins and needles waiting for a jump scare of some kind lol
I do wish there was more about the characters. We don’t get much about them until it’s their time to “shine.” That annoyed me because we get to know them just as they’re “leaving.” I DID like tho that they had some type of character development. Every time they asked if someone thought they were a good person, I was weirdly proud. They had to realize that these things weren’t their fault. Shitty things happened to shitty people.
This book was so much more than what I thought. I don’t want to say too much more, but it was good. It’s intense af, but it was still so good. I really hope y’all pick this one up so you can know exactly what I’m talking about. This is one that’s best left experienced instead of me talking about it. You’ll get it when you read it I promise.
Overall, I give this

Oh nice! I cannot wait to read this one! I always love Marshall’s YA thriller reads! They are so intense! I cannot wait to read this one. Glad to hear it has a creepy vibe and was an enjoyable read! Great review!
