What is your opinion on modern artists’ interpretations of deceased authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Louisa May Alcott, Charles Dickens, and Jane Austen? Do you think these interpretations represent the authors correctly, or do they disrespect the authors?
If you mean the classic retellings, I think they’re fun. ESPECIALLY if they’re reflecting the more modern world, such as giving them diverse characters. Some examples include:

I guarantee you there is a student out there that has never had any interest at all in the old yt people writers, but the moment you show them one of these or any other one that has a person that looks like them, you can best believe you will see the difference. I don’t care what anyone says, as a librarian who sees these things first hand, REPRESENTATION MATTERS.
And like, why is it that you think it would be disrespectful? What makes a retelling disrespectful? That was poor word choice and weird. Kinda not ok…..

What about you? Let me know in the comments!

I enjoy retellings myself whether they are direct ones or inspired by ones. I find them interesting and they can sometimes get you to want to check out the originating work as well. I do like it though when they can incorporate paranormal or fantasy elements but that’s just me! Lol.
