When a neurodivergent girl finds a ghost in the walls, she must decide if the ghost is an ally or an enemy — and the wrong decision could destroy her and her family. From Schneider Family Book Award Honor author Meg Eden Kuyatt comes a chilling yet lyrical new novel-in-verse that’s sure to resonate with readers for years to come.
After a hard school year, V has been sent to her Grandma Jojo’s house for the summer in order to get away from it all. But unlike neurodivergent, artistic, sock-collecting V, Jojo is uptight, critical, and obsessed with her spotless house. She doesn’t get V at all. V is sure she’s doomed to have the worst summer ever.
Then V starts hearing noises from inside the walls of the house…
Knocks, the sounds of a girl crying, and voices echoing in the night.
When V finds a ghostly girl hiding in the walls, they seem to have an immediate connection. This might be V’s chance to get back at her perfect grandmother by messing with her just a little bit.
But the buried secrets go much deeper — and are much more dangerous — than V even suspects. And they threaten to swallow her and her family whole if she can’t find a way to uncover the truth of the girl before it’s too late.

*MY THOUGHTS*

I kept seeing this cover and falling in love with it more and more. I mean look at the ghost at the top! She is staring into your soul lol But for reals, this book was so good and had so many things to talk about. I hope y’all pick it up too.

Ok so one of the best parts about this is the characters. I loved V and loved the way she wasn’t scared to protect her family. Especially when it’s against other members of her family. And I loved the message that this sent too. Her grandmother was evil in some ways and some of the things she said made me want to jump through my AirPods. But she didn’t let any of that stop her. She took it on the chin and was so brave.

The other thing I liked about it was the story-telling. I normally don’t care for novels in verse because of the way the story is told. TO ME it always feels like the book is missing some details and it makes the story choppy. But this one flowed so well. I listened to the audio and I didn’t even know it was a novel in verse until I was making this blog post. (Y’all know I don’t read the synopsis lol) So yeah, I thought this was a really great book. Her story-telling was on point with this one.

And the scary bits were actually scary. If I was a kid I think I would have been weirded out by this ghost thing lol She was creepy. And bad af. Some of the things she was doing I was like girl wtf lol She was doing the most. I was also a little weirded out by her cousin tho. But I can’t blame her. She was reacting and really mad and sad, so I thought what she did was warranted. And I love that it ended that way. Because not everything is all wrapped up in a bow every time, you know? This is a really realistic paranormal book lol

This book came as a surprise! I knew I would like it, but I didn’t know that this was going to be one that I kept recommending all the time. Because yeah, that’s going to happen. This was so much fun! This short read will keep you locked-in until the very end.

Overall, I give this
