These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!
Today’s Theme: Get in Touch with the Spirits! (Séance)
If you haven’t seen me begging for this, where have you been? Lmao I was so excited for this book as soon I saw this cover and of course I was right to be. This book is described as a Southern Gothic horror book and it is every bit of that. There’s a cursed family stuck in a cursed house, ghosts, a ton of Creole food, and so much more. One of my favorite scenes is when there’s a séance. I’m talking flickering candles and all. There’s a lot of secrets that are revealed during and after this seance, so I hope that y’all read it and see how messed up this family was. The setting was amazing tho. I love New Orleans and everything associated with it.
This one also has a séance. This one is wild because they don’t even know what they’re doing. I don’t want to say anymore than that for spoilers, but the ghost at the Bordeaux Bed and Breakfast is a lot more real than they anticipated. This seance had them so scared they were huddled up in one room afterward. This was so good! There’s a ghost, spells, and mediums, and more. I hope y’all pick up this and the sequel that I’m reading right now!
The Ouija Board…
The Ouija Board was first manufactured in 1890. It was used as a talking board. Since then it’s been said that it can be used to talk in mysterious ways, like solving mysteries and crimes, talk with the dead, and more. Definitely things we don’t exactly mess with. (And by WE I mean…. Well IYKYK) Ouija Boards are usually used in séances, so I thought it would be interesting to show some of my favorite scenes that have Ouija Boards in them. ESPECIALLY the ones that depict how I would react too lmao So these are two of my favorites. [Boo’ed Up is a smexy adult book and The Blonde Dies First is a YA book that has a demon in a slasher type situation.]
