Two for Tuesday: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Awareness Month!

These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!

Today’s Theme: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Awareness Month

September is PCOS Awareness Month. As someone who has PCOS but didn’t know anything about it until I was an adult and having fertility issues, I can’t tell you how happy seeing these YA books coming out that talk about this condition makes me. I wish I had been able to read both of these when I was a teen. In Love is in the Hair, the best friend to the main character is the one who has PCOS. The main character creates a club that welcomes women with all types of body hair after her bestie encounters some vicious bullies at the beginning of the book. This one was very good, but I do wish the MC would have been the one with PCOS.

In this one, the main character, Whit Rivera is the one who has PCOS. She’s newly diagnosed and is basically trying to learn more about it while also trying to be a teenager. This book is full of fall things, romance, and more! But the part I liked most about it was the way we get a real up close look at some of the symptoms of PCOS. She tries to find ways to cope with the symptoms throughout the book and the author doesn’t keep those details from us. I hope this book and the other one both help to teach people more about this chronic disorder.

This is just a reminder that these both are YA books and not non-fiction, so please look more into PCOS in other places, such as here and here. Or if you have any other questions, speak with your provider.

Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.

Do you know what PCOS is? Have you heard of it before? Both of these are out now! Have you read them? Will you? Let me know in the comments!
