Do you post negative reviews? Do you promote those reviews if you do post them?

Yes and yes. My entire reason for starting this blog was to give my honest opinion. I never said ‘I would only do it if I liked it.’ And if I look at your reviews and there’s not even one book that you don’t like, I’m going to asssume you only read one type of book, or you’re just being dishonest. Because first of all, it’s true, I’m not going to have the same experience as everyone. And at the end of my reviews I ALWAYS encourage people to read it and make their own opinions. And secondly, because if you think your negative review is making people turn away, what about those people that only read negative reviews to decide to read them? There’s LOTS of TikToks that talk about wanting to read books because they saw a 1 star review on it. You just never know what will pique someone’s interest. Saying that it’s only positive reviews is a big assumption to make.

  1. That’s a good way to look at it. I don’t always like calling them negative reviews anyway, as I said in my post I’ll just say what didn’t work with me and try to explain why I wasn’t enjoying the story like I had anticipated. As far as promotion goes I don’t spend a lot of time saying “hey read this review of a book I didn’t like!” I’ll still have my usual Goodreads tweet go out though. But you’re right, not every reader has the same experience with the same book. I always encourage others to give the book I didn’t like a try if it sounds like something they would be interested in. Where others sometimes find books I loved slow or too descriptive in areas, I can’t see it, but then I’ll experience the same thing in a book they might have loved. It’s all different for the reader and that’s what’s always been fun about reading for readers.
