*MY THOUGHTS*
Another one where Katee Robert knocked it out of the park! Man, this series made me go back and pick up a lot of her backlist lol I’m about half way through the Wicked Villains series too, so seeing that this is also somehow connected?! So glad I waited to read this. Anywho, yeah as you can see, I adored this lol
This time the re-telling was Pschye and Eros. Psyche knew she’d have to answer to Aphrodite, but she never expected her to be so cruel that she makes him be the thing that kills her. And Eros has no idea that when he tries to kill her he can’t bring himself to do it. He’s drawn to her with no idea why. So he does the only thing he can think to do. Keep her safe. Aphrodite isn’t too happy with this decision and neither is Psyche. But as they try to thwart Aphrodite, they begin to see each other in a completely different light.
I wasn’t as familiar with their story as I was with Hades and Persephone, so I did what any librarian would do… I researched it. (Well I Googled it but still) I was able to fill in the parts that I was missing before I read it. And it was cool again to find the parts of this book that came from the original story.
The romance was so cute. I LOVED watching them go from hating each other to falling for each other. And I also loved that it wasn’t your typical enemies to lovers romance. He was about to kill her and they still made it work! The pacing of their relationship did seem to be a little fast tho. And I thought it was weird that the way he was hopping from bed to bed in the previous book and the other one he definitely wasn’t like that in this book. He did mention that he had been with a lot of people, but it was like he was a different person. Maybe he was just really trying to save her life, Idk. But it was just weird to me.
Another thing I liked about this was the fact that it had more plot this time lol In other words, there was less heat, but there is still some HEAT. Don’t get it twisted, the way the scenes were, was still all of Katee Robert’s words. The only thing that’s less is the amount of scenes lol And it wasn’t distasteful. (Despite the reviews that are saying it is.) If you look at some of the quotes that are floating around, he worshipped her. Like while everyone was fat shaming her and she had bodily issues against herself, he worshipped her and I loved that. And I think that deserved to be talked about.
The world-building still wasn’t there in this one either tho. BUT, there was a map in it! (I also had an e-ARC so I was able to see it!) So that was pretty cool to see where everything was divided and whose territory was where. I even consulted the map a couple times while reading to get a clear picture of both this series and her other.
And lastly, I LOVED that Poseidon was included in this one. (Even if he was entirely unhelpful lolol) I actually just mentioned something about a Poseidon romance or re-telling or something on my blog. I really hope she picks up something that has him in sometime. Especially since there’s going to be more books in the series. But I heard that #4 is with Apollo, so we’ll see!
Since I got the audio, I thought it worth it to talk about the narrator. I liked the male narrator so much more as Eros than I did as Hades. I didn’t find myself falling asleep at all with this one. I didn’t even realize it was the same person to be honest. I don’t know what it was, but this was just better. He vibed a lot more as Eros in my opinion.
This book is my favorite of the series. I really enjoyed reading this book. From the steam to the romance to the small bit of action at the end. It’s definitely not part of the sophomore slump of a series. This one lived up to the one before it and made it hard to wait for the next one to come out. (I’ve already requested Wicked Beauty from Edelweiss smh lol)
