Every summer my library system has a summer reading challenge. This year’s theme is Tails and Tales. When I was a YA librarian I would make programs that fit the theme and choose books for displays that fit as well. This year is a little different. I didn’t plan any programs, and I haven’t made any displays. Not only because I’m on maternity leave, but because I’m also not at the branches anymore. This year I bought the books that people are putting on their displays. And I couldn’t be more proud. So, that’s what I’m going to use this year to make my Summer Reading Suggestions!
At first I was like wtf can I do with the TAILS theme for teens for programs?! Like there was literally nothing I could think of besides animals and then a more fantasy focused thing, with a look at different fantastical beings with tails. Book-wise was alot easier, but if you’re like me and were struggling, here are some of my ideas for displays or posters for book recs for the theme. Use them to create your own for your library, or keep them and use them as your own reading list!

Luckily, the TALES part was hella easy to think of programming and books. So, here’s some books that you should add to your posters or personal reading lists for the summer!
Books About Books:
This one is super easy to make a theme for. You can also go with themes like journaling, writing in general, different things like that. It’s open to so many things!
