This week’s topic is:

Top 10 Books for my Younger Self!

-Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan: I finally read this when I was 20 something. I wish I had had it when I was younger. It would have been a huge help in getting to make sure I knew or understood Greek mythology.
-A Good Kind of Trouble by Lisa Moore Ramee: The main character in this book finds a way to be an activist while still young. If I had had this book when I was younger, it would have given me ideas instead of just being shut down by my parents who said I was too young

-The Voting Booth by Brandy Colbert: Let’s be real…. At 18 I registered to vote, but I didn’t realize how important it was until it was time for the election. (I didn’t vote until there was a Presidential Election.) I wish I had read this when I was 18 and realized I needed to take it more serious and vote in the smaller local elections as well.
-Most Likely by Sarah Watson: They went from friends in high school to go on to do some pretty cool things (No Spoilers) I wish I had read this when I was younger to again tell myself I can do anything.

-The Best Laid Plans by Cameron Lund: There is nothing I wish we had more of than sex positive YA. I wish there had been more of it when I was younger. Not that I needed it, but I bet there were some teens who did.
-Throw Like a Girl by Sarah Henning : I was teased for actually liking football all the time when I was younger. Had this book been around when I was younger, I would have used this as an example to show that girls can like (AND PLAY) too.

-Tristan Strong by Kwame Mbalia: I have NEVER in my wildest dream thought I would be able to see or read anything like this. EVER. When I saw this was coming out, I remember being in tears. Definitely made me so happy to see some West African mythology in a book.
-With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo: I have only heard about teens who have such a hard time with having a kid. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anything that showed a teen with a kid making it. And then, this one came up. And man, I wish I had seen this when I was younger. Again, not for me, but I wish they had this for the teens who did have kids at the time.

-Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy: At one point I was Questioning what I wanted. This was a wonderful book that spoke about questioning that could have helped me figure it out.
-The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas: Of course I wish I had this for a younger me. There is so much my mom has told me but I didn’t HEAR. Had this come out earlier, I would have been forced to listen to her. I was one of those who thought I was too young to get in any trouble like that. After reading this, I’d know, being young has nothing to do with it.

What about you? Have you read any of these? Did any of these make your list? Let me know in the comments!
