Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1)Well I couldn’t find anything to do last night and was beginning to get impatient, so I decided to make another trip to the library… But rite before I was able to go, I realized I had another book that I left here last time I visited home… I had this book but never had time to read it, even though I loved how it was written.

the cold.
Grace has spent years watching the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—watches back. He feels deeply familiar to her, but she doesn’t know why.
the heat.

Sam has lived two lives. As a wolf, he keeps the silent company of the girl he loves. And then, for a short time each year, he is human, never daring to talk to Grace…until now.

the shiver.

For Grace and Sam, love has always been kept at a distance. But once it’s spoken, it cannot be denied. Sam must fight to stay human—and Grace must fight to keep him—even if it means taking on the scars of the past, the fragility of the present, and the impossibility of the future.
But don’t expect a review just yet, since this is MY book, I’m just reading it until I get the others I want from the library. I just needed something to read for now.
*Review* (warning: this contains a few spoilers)

The best two things about this book to me was the romance between Sam and Grace, and the poetic like language Stiefvater used. Both of these things seemed magical to me. Another thing I liked about the book was the fact that there were not that many Twilight references. I expected there to be so many more, but there were only about three that I caught. The fact that there aren’t that many made me appreciate the differences even more. Another good thing about this book was the sex scene. This is a young adult book and I was going back and forth about how I felt about it. When I got to it though, I was very happy with how she wrote it. It did not go into detail, but the reader still had enough clues to draw conclusions and realize what happened. As far as the thing I did not like, its just that it did not have the adventure that I was looking for. I know this was put into the paranormal romance genre and that’s it, but I did expect the conflict to go more in depth and make the story a little more exciting. Especially when I could pretty much guess everything that was coming up; like when I found out that Shelby was in love with Sam, Grace ended up possessing some of the wolf like powers, that the reason she never turned might have been because her dad left her in the car when she should’ve died, that at least one of her friends would become one of the wolves, and that Sam would come back human in the end. Although I did like the story, it went slow to me, which is why it took me a little minute to read through it. And for this reason, I will not be reading the rest of the series.

Overall, I give this *** (3 out of 5)
