TGIF && Follow Friday!!!

Thank goodness its Friday! I started Grad school yesterday and I’m already looking for a break lol So now instead of doing my homework (yes I have reading to do on the first couple days smh) I’m going to take a break and do some blogging.

Q: Issue Books: Which books have you found to be very rewarding when it comes to tackling tougher issues?

A: This is a very good question. It’s important for people to get the word about tough issues out there to the public. There’s a lot that I have heard of that are really good, but haven’t been able to read. But one that I had the pleasure of reading and reviewing was Stay by Deb Caletti.
Stay
The tough issue it featured was an abusive relationship. And when I say abusive, I mean physical and emotional. It gave a real view on how a teen girl would handle a situation like that; moving away with her father and moving on to another love interest so she can move on with her life.

Beauty Queens
I also enjoyed Beauty Queens by Libba Bray. It featured many issues that females go through all the time, such as eating disorders and even homosexuality. With all of these issues being showed in this one book, you would think it would come with a heavy weight. But this book is light and humorous. It takes those issues and makes them laughable and to where they’re not so serious anymore.

<— So, now onto Follow Friday!

This week is an interesting question…

Q: You are a matchmaker — your goal, hook up two characters from two of your favorite books. Who would it be? How do you think it would go?

A: I think an interesting pair would be Tris from the Divergent series and Day from Legend. Both are like rough around the edges and both are kick ass characters. I know they say opposites attract, but sometimes, being with someone who’s like you and understands why you do things makes for a great couple! I know neither one of them is like lovey dovey and there probably wouldn’t be any heavily swoony scenes if they really were together, but still, I think they would work. I hope you guys see where I’m coming from.

*What do you guys think about my picks for TGIF and Follow Friday?!*

  1. Great choices! I haven't read any of Deb Caletti's work, but she's on my TBR list for this year. I'm about halfway through Beauty Queens on audio and loving it. It definitely tackles a lot of tough issues, but in a really fun and accessible way. The audio book is narrated by the author too and she's freakin' hilarious!

Your blog is super cute by the way 🙂 I'm a new follower!

  2. Wow, some good issues for books to cover.
I also love the idea of Tris with someone else but I haven't read Legend yet so I can't really say if they are a good match. Great answer though.

  3. I like your pairing of Tris with Day (as much as I love Four). And I've been meaning to read Beauty Queens – now I'm more excited to get to it.

  4. I haven't read Stay or Beauty Queens, but I understand why you picked them. Good choice. They are both on my excessive TBR pile…

    My TGIF

  5. i agree with Beauty Queens. She tackles several issues but does so in a manner that is entertaining, but not preachy. Great choice! ~dixie
