Two for Tuesday: The Classics Revisited!

These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!

Today’s Theme: The Classics Revisited!

Have you ever thought about what makes the classics, “the classics?” Because honestly, a lot of them aren’t actually good lmao They’re so….yt and most of them are boring. So whenever I see those classics retold, ESPECIALLY if they’re featuring characters of color or a modernized version, I GRAB THEM UP. And if it’s some of the ones I actually read and loved in school, I will read it immediately. So of course, when I saw that there was a retelling of Gatsby coming out with Black, LGBTQ+ boys, let me just say, I sprinted to the author’s DMs and asked if I could get this ARC. And let me just tell you, it does not disappoint. I loved this one as much as the original. I can’t wait for y’all to read this one too.

This one is a modernization of Little Women. This one was weird tho lol Not in a bad way, but because it was weird to read about them having social media followers lol All the usual characters are there, but one of them is a killer. Can you guess which one? I couldn’t lol This book is good and I hope y’all pick it up. It comes out today actually! It’s a good read and will have you saying wtf out loud. Especially that ending.

Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.

And y’all know I can never make a real decision, so here’s some other classic retellings that are coming out later this year or already out.

This graphic has a retelling of Little Women, but they’re monsters. I can’t wait to read this MG novel. And then there’s Rosa, a very loose retelling of Romeo and Juliet and it was so good! Bad Girls Never Say Die is a retelling of The Outsiders which I’ve never seen done so I loved it. Which is also why I’m hella excited for Calypso’s Odyssey, a retelling of The Odyssey. Gatsby came out last year and One Week to Win the Chocolate Maker is out soon and is a retelling of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which I adored.

And of course there’s the Fierce Reads Classic Remixes. My favorite is My Dear Henry and the one coming out soon is A Picture of Dorian Gray I believe. You can find the rest of the series: here. Another retelling that’s a favorite of mine is the Pride and Prejudice retelling by Ibi Zoboi, called Pride. So yeah, let me know your favorite classic retelling! I need to add some more to my TBR!

What about you? Have you heard of any of these? Will you read any of these? Let me know in the comments!
