*MY THOUGHTS*
I LOVED the first book and I was so excited to hear there was more to the story. I was not expecting it to be basically the same thing as the first but in a school setting.
I can truthfully say I am a plot driven reader and not a character one because I would not have made it through this book otherwise. Every single person in this book was terrible. Just like the first one it made me side eye every guy I saw. As far as the girls, we’ve been introduced to some new characters and found out some interesting things about others. There were definitely some eye opening moments concerning them that I can honestly say I was not expecting.
That’s also part of another reason I didn’t care for this one. It was reperitive. It was the same story as the last time, just in a different setting and they were running from more people. I didn’t really feel like there was enough new information introduced. Because of that, the plot didn’t really work for me.
The ending did leave an opening for another book in the series. I didn’t even know there was one until I brought up that link to the series at the top of the page. I’m hoping there is something else going on at least in that one. I don’t want to read another book about the same things again. (I really hope they were gearing up for a war and this one became a victim of the dreaded sophomore novel curse.
The reason I rated this up another half star is because I love the narrator. She narrates a lot of the things I listen to and sometimes I didn’t even realize it. I listened to two books by her back to back and I didn’t even notice it was the same person. She’s so good about the different voices and such that she made me think she was someone else. Definitely another reason why I enjoyed this book in audio.
After I loved the first one I was expecting to be wow’ed just as I was with that one. But it wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I wanted something more than just a repeat performance of the first book. Hopefully book 3 will give me a little something more.
